Butch looking Hippo there, it'll be OK as long as you don't have to go across a grassy field to escape the zombies :p
It would be alright if the car were 4WD - which they claim - but with the massive discrepancy in front to rear tyres, that ain't running 4WD (or won't be very shortly).

Yer right to be concerned. All that eggstra weight would make it much heavier and may bog it down. Best to remove all the "improvement" accessories before yer go often road. Then it wouldn't get stuck. Also it would stop peeps wondering wtf.

Oh is the transfer gubbins not very good on hippos then, funny that as @Hippo keeps declaring what a fantastic, wonderful and ultra reliable bit of kit freelanders are:p

Does that mean only skinny folk should consider attempting to off road hippos? Mind you as a good 70% of them are only two wheel drive to 'improve mpg' I imagine off roading is the last thing any hippo would attempt to do :p

They is OK - but like anything, if you don't maintain it correctly - it'll bite you on your bum. Turning it into a very poor Mad Max tribute is very poor maintenance.

Yes, lardy types do need more fuel to move around and can beach themselves alarmingly - rendering them incapable of getting to their Freelander.

Does that mean @Hippo isn't really the size of a hippo :p

The only flipping that FL1 is good for is flipping off the forklift tynes into the crusher!!:D
I don't like scrapping cars which have good use left in them but I think this one has too much owner inflicted damage. Holes all over it and not something anyone would want to repair due to the cost of repair. If it does get scrapped we should give it the dignity of having all the accessories removed first.

The 4x4 setup in a Freelander has the same problems a rusty old tratter has if the front wheels are a different size to the rears, if the diff lock is engaged. That's never going last long due to transmission stress.

If the Freelander int question had the right size tyres then there wouldn't be a risk to the transmission.

% converted to 2wd by force or owner choice is a lot smaller than the figure yer made up. Knock the 0 oft and yer be not far oft.

Not according to the ones I see on ebay with mayo oil and a knackered head gasket:p
When travelling around all the sections on Lz some years ago I realised all lr's suffer from oil and coolant mixing. The difference being yer like to highlight it int freelanders but keep quiet when it's yer own hesps.

Ere you still looking to buy a Freelander?

I don't really know enough about them and I'm always put off buying something with issues that can quickly escalate into a money pit like the p38 I bought last year:p. If it wasn't for the towing capacity they'd probably be on my radar but the 50th disco I've got ticks all the boxes at the mo, it's off road ready, it'll tow anything, it's comfy and super reliable and easy to work on and I know 300tdi's inside out pretty much. I keep looking at manual p38 diesels but I can't justify the risk

He doesnt like to let on but he's secretly been eyeing up freelanders for some time. Common to most tratterers he wants one but doesn't want to admit it.

Can't be as bad as his P38 cat d. Sold at a loss to a local small holder who uses it to house chickens. :D
