Why? Because it's a Defender! I've had two, both 300tdi, and I loved them. Imagine rolling down a rocky hill in a metal dustbin, and when you get to the bottom your wallet is empty. That just about covers life with a Defender in my experience. They're uncomfortable, slow, noisy, expensive, unreliable and they leak in both directions, but are still great. Everyone should have one, they're as good as it gets
 
This is exactly the question my other half put to me. Given the choice I went for the Defender. I know that if it get a dink in a carpark or bush rash done the lanes its not going to matter a jot. If I keep it 10 years its still going to look good, will never look dated and is an icon. Plus my car tax aint £400 quid.
