On my freelander 2003 td4 sport I'm paying roughly £1200 a year on the insurance but I am 20 with 1 year no claims

It's something about the landrover badge being a ripoff for parts I think.

When I bought the freelander I was also looking at a V8 disco.

On the same postcode with similar NCB my RX8 costs £400 a year to insure and my Freelander costs £700.
(I'm in Birmingham so prices are a little high.)

I just don't get it?

They wanted 900 to insure a disco, which I thought was bonkers - what gives? I'd have thought that the RX8 which is a car crashed constantly due to it's right-to-the-edge handling would have been far more expensive than a freelander.

Wasn't the Freelander the ram raiders car of choice back in the day? Seem to remember it being mentioned on one of those "police camera action" shows. May be the residual high premiums due to that.

I think it's because everyone wants one, and the tratterers want to burn them. There have been several banks raided with the use of Freelanders.
