Hi all,

(2000 DHSE P38)

Leaking diesel around No.4 injector has forced me to attempt replacing.
So bought (Sealey SX024) 27mm window socket, removed exhaust air intake & here we go..
Not... Socket does not want to reach far enough onto nut at bottom end of injector so I can loosen..
Not sure how to get around this.
All ideas welcome

Have you made sure the wire is pulled tight through the window and not getting bunch up in the socket?

Yes, have kept wire out of way.
There doesnt appear to be enough clearance along side rocker cover, socket just sits on top of injector nut & will not drop onto it.
 
Have you actually measured the inside of the socket across the flats?

I use the Laser tools one without any problems. You have removed the inlet manifold i take it?
 
Inlet removed, still no joy.
For info, Sealey SX024 27mm deep thin wall socket does not appear suitable for injector removal.

Re-leaking No.4 injector.
Changed injector and spill pipes torqued to 65nm 48lbft , replaced intake, fired up beast, with no leak apparent.
Fired up again today, checked injector and found bubbling at base and wet body. However not as much as original leak.
Any ideas,
Should I exceed recommended torque?
 
Same happened to me. It was the injector itself that was leaking so took it back for a replacement. Didnt fancy tightening the injector although that is what the part supplier wanted me to do!!!

Check spill pipes are not weeping. If not it is the injector body leaking injector needs to be changed. Small bubbles around base are a slight gas leak on combustion and are only visible because you have a fuel leak. Don't over torque, put Copraslip on threads, that will make the 48 lbs feet more effective and give a slightly tighter nip on the seal faces. You can try backing off and re torquing a couple of times to snug things down.

Re torque may or may not stop the bubbles, but it won't stop the diesel leak. Fuel cannot come from down there it has to come from the injector body. Usually from around the plastic part that the wires go into.

This is a new (£180) replacement injector. (Need that at this time of year).
Is it possible the new injector that I fitted has a leak also?
Or is it more to do with not being tight enough in the head?

Nothing to do with tightness in the head diesel CANNOT leak from base seal out of combustion chamber only exhaust gas. Which are the bubbles you are seeing because it is wet with diesel. it must be leaking from either the spill pipes or the injector body, either where it joins to the bottom part or where the plastic part is where the wires go in. Usually the plastic section. A new one should not leak but it has been known.
