Hi all, went to the beach the other day and got temporarily stuck. I am new to 4X4 off road use so assume little knowledge on subject. Me and swmbo decide to get to a part of the beach that non 4X4 cannot get to. We had already climbed up and down steep hill ect no probs and was driving along the beach when the sand deepened by no more than about 6 inches and before I know it Moby Dick in a paddling pool syndrome and we were going nowwhere! I had been driving slowly in 2nd gear diff lock low, we eventually got out by letting air out of tyres and rolling backwards and forwards, saved a little face but not much.
I have checked the diff lock as advised elsewhere on forum by jacking one wheel and trying to turn ect, no problems the difflock engages/disengages ok.
Tyres are Michelin synchro 205/16/80 and in good condition.
Q1. What did I do wrong?
Q2. What can we do with the disco to make it more capable?
Q3. Any particular additional equipment we can (should) buy?
Q4. Great car but is there another vehicle a bit more capable?
The vehicle will be used for beaches and 'mild' off road excursions once or twice a week and sees town/motorway (90/10) use in general
TIA to all
regards
Dave
