Did you fix it by adjusting the lever cable as above or did you find another way to adjust it or a different fault with it?

The positioning setup of the lever is probably wrong. It should be set to position the lever in D when your in Drive which allows you to push it to the right to select sport mode. The lever position should be correct to the LED's to the right of the lever and the dash display.
