He's probably right on the brittle front. Plastic downpipe does tend to stiffen up and become more brittle in the winter so treat it gently when its cold. Looks tidy tho!!:)

Not that brittle really, but if it takes a whack and splits, it'll cost a few quid to replace.

The sun damages it after a while but, like you say, for a few quid you can't go wrong. The first time I went out with my safari on, the top got damaged and bent... £50 damage

I also wonder that in the cold of winter how much more brittle will it be, I know that its cheep to relace and all that but i am not sure that I would like to leave the job of keeping water out to a bit of plastic that is brittle.

All that water needs to get in is a small crack, and I thought that was the idea, what hapens if you break the thing down when your out at the start of a trip, -------fun over for the day, would rather have a stainless pipe. yes i know every town has a B&Q and they can be open late, but do you want the hastle.

i wouldn't do it to a new one , but on an old landy it makes sense

all the sense in the world to me in these times of financial dismay but id rather spend a tenner on a chrome breakfast bar leg from b&spew as its the same diametre as downspout pipe and its shiny mmmm:D:D:D

Where did you get your flexi pipe from at the bottom?

Looks good :) Better than my (much more bodged) drain pipe snorkle.

I've had mine on for about 2 years now and it's not cracked / broken / suffered from the cold or heat
