I am considering buying a reconditioned Cylinder head due to the extortionate and unfortunately atm unaffordable cost of a new one.

My friendly mechanic is no very happy and says it is a false economy.

Has anyone used a reconditioned head or indeed any other part and found it to be up to the job and did it last very long? Are ther some parts that are okay reconditioned and some not so sucessful?

Are there some companies to avoid ( PM me if so pls)

This is going to be a costly exercise so I really want to make an informed decision.

Many thanks

How long would such a part usually be gaurenteed for ?

We are in Somerset are there any companies you could recommend pls ?

2 threads, both stacked together with nearly same questions!!,

sounds like my father in law, a pain in the arse!!!

he wants to be finding a deep puddle if things are that bad? don't think he would after look that hard at the moment,

Ratty's told him twice to drown it!!:D

Actually, since I have similar problem, I'd be interested to know what you all think about reconditioned Cylinder Heads: specifically, the effect of skimming the head and re-cutting valve seats? Since RAVE quite specifically states that no skimming or cutting is possible, I'm curious how people have got on ignoring this and doing it anyway?

Ask Ratty!

the link in the above post for a recon, 12 months ticket, if it wasn't possible i think they wouldn't do it, but JM says he use 2nd hand heads! i think they will know!

Er,I think he was answering my question that time: a new and slightly different question to which I certainly have NOT had "enough info". Perhaps you should read the thread a litlle more carefully before jumping in? :flame2: Happy New Year BTW:)

If it's a TD5 you're talking about, you take your chances but it could end in tears and costing more. Talk to Richard at Turner Engineering about all things LR engines. I bit the bullet and went for a new Spanish AMC head. Much better than the LR original.

AHEM !!!!

HE is a SHE and someone else posted on this thread about the reconditioned cylinders too! Maybe you guys should READ things properly !!:p

I was simply questioning the merits or reconditioned parts - apologies if you think it stupid BUT if I am spending circa £650 on a part and approx £500 labour that only last a yr then goes BANG I would have been better buying a new one and not having to get the job done twice - Or is that female logic and something you hillarious chaps are not in agrrement with ????
