Hi everyone, my names Chris and I live in Essex.

Years ago I went off roading on a Camel Trophy weekend with my cousin in Malta and loved it!
I always wanted to try my hand at it but never got round to it........until now!

I have just bought my first landy, a 1993 Disco.

However the fact remains that I am still a virgin at driving off road and this just is not good enough!!!!!

Can anyone please give advise on the best way to learn a few basics, recommend places to try things out?

Also, do I need to worry about fitting certain stuff i.e. bullbar, steering guard ect before going off roading as I need the disco for day to day use as well?

A bit of a long winded thread I know and do apolagise for this but I just want to get dirty!! (oohh eerrr)

Thanks in advance,

Chris.

Hi chris, welcome to the forum m8.

do a google search for 4x4 clubs in your area.

about fitting stuff, it all depends on how hard you want to play.
steering guards are a good idea, if you want to keep it simple you can just get the tube that fits over the steering arm, or go for the full on protection. bent mine last year, hit a tree stump, offroading.
diff guards are cheap enough, worth while, might save an exspensive repair bill.
bullbars are good for stoping the rambler's from denting your bonnet :D

Yeah welcome Chris,
I reckon one of yer best bets is to go along to a public playday, BADLRC hold 2 a year at Hartington. Of course there are other venues with other clubs. If you go along to one of these it's gonna ease you in gently also there's help on hand mate.

i know it was quiet midweek and not a lot happening last night but i thought it might be a hive of activity tonight, clearly i was mistaken ;)

Obviously old chap however I was thinking along similar lines. Makes ya almost miss the girls from downstairs eh.

Yes matey, its on the Buxton to Ashbourne Road about 9 or 10 miles from me. It's a good site although I have to admit that I busted my hand 2 years ago on that site whilst negotiating a narrow deep mud filled pit with a tight right hand crank (steering lash).

Yeah, it's a nice part of the country mate. Apart from Hartington there are plenty of green lanes as well and some decent hostelrys.

Oh yes, but if you bide your time with yer motor running whilst sat at the top of the hill near Tissington ford, if yer time it right you can drench them as you hit it at 40mph. you've gotta wait till theres at least 6 of em and they've gotta be halfway across. This way they lose valuable time falling over each other in an attempt to get clear. I've had three successful raids of this nature.

Regards WP.

Excuse me guy's but this is my thread!

:D

On a serious note thanks for all your help and advise. I will be phoning a few places next week!
