Hello there.
Just got my Freelander TD4 back from its 72k service.
Runs great, no loss of power but it now has a whirring/whizzing/whistle type noise coming from the engine (top right under the bonnet if you were facing the car).
It only happens when I accelerate and it's more obvious if I push the car faster.

Not a loud noise/not annoying but wondered why i'm now hearing it....something wrong or just a filter clean again after it service and it's all normal...?

Thanks for any help/advice,
Sam.

Did it have the air filter replace at the service center if so check the airbox is sealing correctly around the new filter

or maybe a split / holed intercooler hose, esp. the one across the top of the front of the engine where it rubs on the mounting screw

Great suggestions, thanks. I'll get it back to the garage as it clearly needs sorting.
I'll post here to update when it's sorted.

the hose is an easy check, just feel around it with your fingers, big rubber hose across the top of the front of the engine. You'll see where it rubs on the screw, but check the whole length.

good luck

Thanks for that, i'll have a good feel around.
Noise only happens when the cars in motion and throttle is pressed. When it's static the noise isn't there, even when you push the throttle.

I agree about the air cleaner cover - its a little tricky to refit, but a mechanic who knows TD4s should have been able to do it right first time.

I had a 'whistle sound' at one point which was traced to a missing plastic hose clip at the end of the air-cleaner box which exposed a 3mm diameter hole.

Other possibility is a small diameter vacuum hose disconnected.

Thanks for your comments singvogal. Ended up being an airpipe that has a bit of moisture in it so it wriggled a bit lose.
Really pleased to have it back to normal.
Thanks again everyone, priceless help really appreciated.
