hi everyone, i have got a 300tdi and for the past few weeks it has been smoking white smoke, sometimes it doesnt do it at all like today i went to work in it and it was realy bad but its been resting a few hours and iv just been back out and theres none at all iv googled the problem but cant find anything without loss of power as the powers still there, only thing i can think of is theres a small leak on the diesel tank could air or moisture be getting in through it and be causing it or not,

any help would be greatly appreciated

That happens in cold weather until they get to temp. Usually on first start of the day. How far is work??

i did think that mate but it gets really bad sometimes, drove it about 20 mile today when it was bad around 12 o clock, went out in it about an hour ago and not a thing lol

If you smell the white smoke - does it smell of diesel or not much?

If diesel could be a injector pump timing issue

If 'not much', likely water - could be water in fuel tank, or small leak from block or cylinder head

yes mate can smell diesel in the smoke, i had a new timing belt and kit fitted about a month ago could that be anything to do with it

would be if timing where out a bit ,youd need to remove front cover to check properly

but wouldnt it be continually smoking if it was the timing instead of just now and again, sorry if i sound daft but my knowlege on mechanics is very limited lol

could smoke for alot of reasons ,injectors,timing ,bent pushrod or incorrectly opening valve ,egr stuck open ,has it done since belt change ?

egr blanked if not undo valve on manifold and put blank tin gasket in between to blank it .get injectors check or borrow some just to check,
