Hi All,

Struggling to describe this, but here goes.

Defender 200tdi CSW - When accelerating and take foot off accelerator I get a tapping/whistling sound, but also happens sometimes when accelerating??? P*ss poor description, but someone might be able to help!

The whistling sounds like the turbo spinning up and it may be causing something to knock, check for usual loose bolts?

Update-
Sounds like metallic rattling when take foot off accelerator?
All help greatfully received.

Check fan belt, fan blade, alternator, water pump etc.

Does it do it when stationery or only when going along?

Jonah could be loads of things i think you should get a mechanic to have a look before it gets seriously expensive.

Have a quick look underneath by the passenger footwell, see if the exhaust heat shield is making a bid for freedom....

It makes the metalic rattle mainly when I take foot off accelerator, but just noticed some times when accelerating.

Get someone to rev the engine and you keep your head under bonnet to see if you can spot what is loose, also as mentioned above do the same but underneath. Mind the hot pipes though ;)

Thanks for all advice.
Checked under bonnet and the Heatshield that sits over turbo & top of exhaust split. Part - NTC4833 tinternet quoting £110, what the f**k!
Going to try exhaust repair putty? Any other suggestions and don't say get the cheque book out!!!

Take it off and try and repair it
Mine didnt even have one fitted
I eventually found a cheap second hand one
I believe its the same as the earlier turbo diesel engine one

Nice find, hopefully you can fix it bud, I just realised that I don't have any shield there at all. Better go looking for a second hand one :)

I don't either... But mine is a disco one.. I am, however missing the heat shield for the starter motor. I hope that isn't as expensive!
