Good evening all,
The rover (2.5 DT) has developed a whistle when accelerating hard. It stps when I lift the hoof off a bit. I read from searching on here that it could possibly be a leak in a turbo hose? Hoping its just a leak and not the turbo on the way out. :( Had a look but can't see anything obvious. Should I be looking esp. on the high pressure side? any particular place prone to going? It still runs fine, fuel consumption just the same etc. Help appreciated thanks

You would loose performance if it was a turbo/intercooler hose. Get someone to give it a rev, run your hand around the pipes and you should feel it you have a leak. Have you checked your belt tensions lately, serpentine and A/C ? :)

Thanks Alan,
nope, I haven't! Should I? I assumed (obviously wrongly) that there were tensioners on these. Which one could cause a whistle?

The A/C tension is adjustable, the serpentine belt has a preset tensioner but if the belt is old and stretched it will whistle/scream under load and stop if you lift off the revs. A/C tension setting is described on Rave.:)

Ok thanks. I'll read up on it just now and have a look. Tomorrow will do tho', feelin a bit old and stretched myself tonight.:)

I just lost a similar whine after re-fastening the starter motor. It was just hanging on by the last bolt, and I guess the whine was air being forced out the gap by the flywheel.
