Hello, I have a 54 plate TD4 Sport. I've noticed a high pitched whining noise from the engine when accelerating. It's only under load and not when stationary if I rev the engine. I've recently renewed the Intercooler hoses which due to the split in hoses, was causing a hissing sound. That's gone now but I've noticed this whining sound. The car's performance doesn't seem to be affected and it's running well so I don't know if it's always been there and I'm just noticing now because I'm listening for noises!

I'm wondering if the noise is detrimental to the car? Can anyone assist please?

Thanks. Alex

i got some bad news when my td4 did the same
it was found that the turbo fins had gone
and had 2 have a new turbo
sorry but looks exactly the same prob

Have you checked the drive belts try spray a little water on them then see if it happens if it does not then they are either slack or worn a good indicator of being worn they look shinny Hope this helps

Must be the hybrid energy recovery system - if you watched the Le Mans 24 hours you will know what i mean :)

Whine or Whistle, Whine check belts , Whistle as you have changed all pipes check all turbo pipes for tightness use some soapy water look for bubbles even small leak gives turbo whistle.

Thanks for all your advice guys. I'll get to work checking it all. I'll get back when I have the answer. Cheers.

My guess is the turbo also....mine either whines or whistles around 95mph when I'm on the autobarns..
