Go for the 11x30 Dyneema. A lot safer under breakage plus it floats on water
steel ropes are dangerous and cause nasty splinters and arnt very user friendly.
plasma dyneema whatever u want to call it is a lot easier to use weighs nothing, floats, and if it snaps it just falls to the floor
my advice don't buy any rope from winchit of ebay there crap Chinese imports I broke 3 inside 6 months, buy the best you can afford it will last longer..the marlow ones are very good
Can you weld damaged strands on steel ropes ?
Whats a lay length then ?No
Although you are allowed 6 broken wires in a lay length as long as they are spaced out

mine have only ever snapped due to being cheap imported crap,,never broke one in competition I used the x zag over rockssteel ropes will outlast any plasma, they need care which should always be good practice however when they get damaged due to poor use they can break. If no precautions are taken it can cause harm if no precautions taken.
If I was driving an offroad course around rocks and flint and needed to last for the duration of the event steel rope all day long, plasma is tough but not amazing 3 needed re spliciing at local comp bacause they were used over sharp rocks. Steel ropes are banned for comps but very durable if looked after and very cheap!
if messing about with pipe saves my £480 plasma rope then that's what I will do..using steel for lifting is a bit different to competing in 4x4 trials don't ya thinkPlasma is a must for comps fading about with bent bits of pipe is ok messing Offroad. There is a reason emergency service and all large lifting equipment uses steel cable. I chose wire over plasma on my 90 however I will have to buy some plasma as its a must for comps when I get sorted.
