With progressive springs the tighter part of the coil goes on the bottom, the hardest part of the spring is the open part, the RRc had progressive springs at the rear and the tighter part of the coil was at the bottom when they left the factory.

But according to previous Forum posts the general opinion is it doesn't matter which way up, so just the same as linear springs. I may get around on day to see what springs are fitted to my D1 :)
