When I binned my EAS and fitted Perm Dry with Konis never looked back, great on blacktop and off-road. Worth the extra pennies

If your suspension is standard at the moment, the Koni Heavy Track dampers may work for you. If you have non-standard (Arnott airspings, low profile rims or polybushes), then the ride will be too harsh.

I'm confused now. I have Arnott Gen 2 airsprings. Does that mean I shouldn't fit Konis?

I thought the Gen 2s were pretty much the same spec as the OEM ones?

Guy

suppose so but if you end up with a set up thats right and the oem ones are only about 25 quid a pop so put them on run it for a few months then if no good move up the expense chain I guess

Derek there are shocks that can be adjusted for rebound or spring assistance by increasing the gas pressure. There are shocks that rely on gas pressure alone for springing. But they all use oil for damping and are all hydraulic dampers. No splitting of hairs. A gas filled shocker is still a hydraulic damper whether Blistein like it or not. Early Oleo legs used compressed air for springing and oil for damping. They now use Nitrogen to negate the corrosive properties of compressed air. You may be interested to know that the aircraft you go on your holidays in has no springs in it's undercart, but is suspended on compressed Nitrogen alone. Hydraulicly damped of course.

Aye, I hear what you're saying Wammers and I agree that there are shockers of that nature. I just don't think they're in general use on cars but I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. It's been a good discussion whilst it lasted though.:D:D
Problem is, we still haven't answered Sandyt's question and I don't think we can really. Personnal choice as to whether you want a stiffer but more controlled ride or whether you want a softer, more wafting ride but can live with the rock and roll. And budget of course at the end of the day.
Cheers

Cheers Derek mate no problem. A good discussion never hurt anyone. Yeah it's personal choice, i see no point in paying £100.00 a corner if you use your car to go to ASDA once a week. For normal everyday driving standard shocks are more than good enough. But some like to climb the mountain just because it's there regardless of cost or usage. If your an off roader then it pays to have the best, if you can afford them.:):):)

my main reason for the change is that I get a vibration but only at speed and noticed the bushes look suspect so thought the shocks might be a bit fooked too am I wasting my time ?

More likely an out of balance wheel. If you lose a weight off a front wheel it is obvious as you feel it in the steering. But lose a weight off a back wheel and it will give you a vibration, but because you get no feedback from the steering it is overlooked as a balance problem. An out of balance wheel will work a shocker very hard. Change the shocks by all means for the best you can afford, if that's what you want to do. But get the wheels balanced also.

thanks Wammers will start with a rebalance it only happens at fairly high speed 75 plus which is why I didnt consider balance as a prob as I thought they came in at 50 to 60

sorry also meant to say that when I hang of the side and bounce on drivers side you can hear the front shock make a squishing sound but it returns ok etc

Got My motor tested today and it rides like a pudding on new airbags and britpart dampers :deadhorse: Where is this superior ride?

Where did you get them at for £75 each? Price seems to be nearer £90 to £120 on fleabay or is that just RPi prices?
they were £75 a corner a few years ago when i bought mine ,so they have obviously gone up
overfinch used konis on there upgrades i have a set in the workshop that i removed from a breaker they were konis but with an overfinch sticker on them , you can just see the stickers , sorry pics arent to good [camera phone]:):)

So your telling me with my budget of £75 all round I shouldn't expect too much?

Well I guess its :rolly: untill I spend a bit more dosh.... It really is a rubbish ride.

There are a few other things that can affect the ride quality. Be worth thoroughly checking your suspension bushes before spending out any more.
