I'm planning to buy a Range Rover and I have £9,000 to spend, but which one do I buy.
I was thinking of buying a L322 V8 as I will do less than 3,000 miles a year, but is a diesel better ?

Is a P38 any good ? diesel or pertrol as I can buy a 2002 model for half the price of a L322, why ?

I would apreciate any advice

Thanks

Depends on what your going to do with it... ? Normal road use / enjoying the rangies luxuries.. Then L322.. The above with the odd greenlaning thrown in then I'd opt for a P38. Not that the newer isn't capable.. But would u want to risk the odd Mark on it? Which P38?? Obviously the higher spec such as Vogue will be laden with more goodies than such a spec like mine.. As with all though, there's a few gremlin ridden ones, so u have to know what to check when buying

L322 all the way
Iv got the HSE spec which luckily had been bought with all the extras of the vogue

So I ended up getting a vogue for the price of the hse
Which coated me just under 9 grand

Vogue will be the best but you Wont get a vogue for under 10 grand

Saying that if you only have 9 grand to spend will you be able to afford the petrol guzzling of the petrol model ? Lol
Mines a diesel and I would recommend getting a diesel one
Quite a decent engine in the td6
Even better once chipped :p

Given your limited mileage, I'd go for the petrol V8 L322. Its a fair bit more powerful than the diesel ones, and more importantly has a better ZF gearbox which doesn't break anywhere near as often as the ones fitted to the diesel ones (which isn't rated for as much torque as that engine has, and that's before people go chipping them). Do a quick search on here and you'll see the majority of gearbox fails are on the TDV6s, not V8s.

I'd stay away from P38 for the same reason. Also go have a look at the P38, even a late model, then go and look at a L322 - there is a big step up in terms of interior quality. But then maybe I'm biased being a L322 owner!

As already mentioned, I'd try and get a Vogue if you can for your budget - will generally have more toys and some things which cannot be spec'd in an HSE like totally different (better) seats. They also tend to hold their re-sale value a bit better.

go for a l322 v8 vogue ive just purchased one after owning allmost every model of the p38, maybe its me but the p38 is looking a old girl now :-(

P38 diesel for half the price of the L322 and you will have plenty of cash left for fixing all the problems.

2 ways of going about this, half price for p38 and spend the rest on repairs (as i have done)

but if you only doing small miles and its for pure filthy comfort, then L322 v8 with a good spec, if your only doing small miles it shouldn't plummet to much and the interior is a step up by miles (yet the still manage to keep improving it!)

Agreed and it wont loose as much value either. You just need to make sure you get a good one.........they do exist.

The dash of the L322 is terrible at night, too many large lit up areas to distract and diminish night vision IMO:eek:

L322 dash is lovely !
Well lit !
At least u can see all the controls at night and if there too bright you can dim them down with the dimmer control switch

mmm nice way of considering a motor, surely more informative relevant information would be better like.....

the p38 is a terrible motor,it will gobble up yr cash quicker than a thai hooker, the suspension if it hasnt will drop on its arse at some point and cost a fortune to sort

if it hasnt it will fail to start at some point

the electrics if they havent will fail at some point

but on the plus side the dash illumination is about right at night:rolleyes:

I think that would be about right... Data is probably one of many (like me) who doesnt suffer from many of the usual probs that every car suffers.. wouldnt it be good to hear who's IS running right, rather than who's isnt?

The EAS is cheap to fix and reliable if maintained.:) L322's are already suffering EAS failures not to mention gearbox, steering column, yaw sensor, sat nav failures etc etc. I have 2 mates with P38's and 2 with L322's, so far the P38's have been less trouble and the bits cost a lot less, £60 for a P38 airspring, £389 for a L322 front airstrut for example.
