Hi guys
I'm trying to rebuild my hybrid soft top, I've bought a 300tdi to change from the 3.9 v8 that is in it as I need to do more miles. But it will be sad to loose the noise!
Can I fit my new 300tdi lump to the zf4 speed auto box I currently am running?
I bought the complete 300tdi engine and box from a disco 1.
Also is the viscous box better to use than the standard disco one?

I also have the nas 90 rad do I keep that as surely a tdi will never over heat with this and I could add an aftermarket intercooler? Or change to a standard tdi setup?
Cheers
Tim

v8 boxes and diesel have different torque converters and valve blocks ,borgwarner has an advantage imo but you will need the longer front prop to go with it plus chassis mounts

Ok that makes using the auto not practical, by the time I change the parts over I could just buy a new box.
I like the idea of keeping the borgwarner transfer box, I'll have to look how that's comes off.
Thanks for the info
Tim

The viscous box has one advantage as it gives a better front rear split than standard , when on loose surface. The downside is that like the freelander viscous coupling it is limited life , before it siezes up!

Just put the whole 300tdi drivetrain in if thats an auto , simples ;)

if you still want the borgwarner and the disco is manual 380 , you need the rear of the box out of a 300tdi manual RRC Then you can build the two together . IIRC

the borgwarner for classic are interchangeable from auto to manual ,its p38 were there not, though technically bw did have different colour id plates for the 2 but all parts are the same

Sadly the crank case has a few issues so by the time I sort all that and the chassis rust it'll be simpler to wack a new motor in.
But I will miss the sound but not the mpg!
