Hi guys,

I know it's been asked before, and believe me I've searched and searched, but I haven't been able to find the answer to my question.

On a 1996 300tdi Defender, which oil seal should you use inside the stub axle, between the stub axle bearings and the threaded end of the stub axle.

I've been sent part number FTC5268 and FTC840 but I'm confused which one I should use and which orientation.
the garter spring side of the seal faces the swivel housing, the seal in the stub axle iwas ftc3145 but supercedes to ftc52268

ftc3145 which ive allways fitted has an open garter spring too,

ftc5268 is a later improved/replacement ,id fit it with the top side in the pic facing the swivel its to keep the grease in the swivel

I'll go ahead and do that then.

theres just 1 seal sitting on the inner die of the bearing, that bearing needs grease from the swivel for lube the seal stops the grease going further along and out to the hub
Thanks for clearing that up. In this case, I can just go ahead and throw away part FTC840?
