Engine oil - Td5
Use 5W/30, 5W/40, 5W/50, 10W/30, 10W/40, 10W/
50 or 10W/60 oil to specifications ACEA A1/B1,
having a viscosity band suitable for the temperature
range of your locality.

This is suggesting A1/B1 oil to promote fuel efficiency and makes no mention of synthetic / semi synthetic.

It's just a repeat of the oil specs for a D1, which was a repeat of the spec for the RRC so no change there, it states the important bit's so there's no more to know is there? other than oil technology has improved somewhat since the days of RRC, D1-2. :D

I've had a good look at the engine oil spec link above but am still not sure what oil I should use. I was going to buy a semi synthetic 5w30 oil and I think I still will but should I buy the cheapest and change more frequently or spend a bit more and leave it for the full service interval?

ALWAYS change more often than the mfr specs. If you think about it for a second you'll see it makes sense.
