I'm in need of complete sills for both sides of my Disco 1 and I've noticed the YRM sills are almost half the price of sills from anywhere else. They look a bit more flimsy than other places but is that just looks? I'm after anyone who has experience with either YRM sills or the more expensive looking black sills to give me their opinion. Oh and box section is a no go for me, I'm trying to keep everything standard.

The YRM stuff is not flimsy at all its just their photography skills aren't great.

The inner sill is identical to the standard ones and really well put together.

The outer sill is oversized and will require trimming to fit but is designed that way instead of the standard replacements so you have a bit more new metal to play with.

Just started the sills on mine using the YRM stuff and so far so good. I also did the complete inner wings and headlamp boxes and was very impressed with that lot

I like the products from YRM but honestly their Disco repair panels for sills are just not up to scratch.

If you look at the originals you'll see they are internals reinforced, whereas the YRM ones really are only a sill cover. There's no way they have the mechanical strength or the OE ones.

Thanks both. So it's a tie........one vote each! So do you think the M&M ones I mentioned will be OE as they're over half the price of the YRM ones I looked at?

Why not just put some box section in instead or are they to far gone ??

Yeah they are pretty bad and as I'm not into anything too extreme I'd rater try and keep it pretty standard. I always rather things be repaired to how they started their life!

dunno about sills but mm 4x4 (I assume you meant these guys with m&m) sent me a decent boot floor although the side panels, the bits that go round the arches, needed modifying a bit to all line up nicely!

For the outers, if you have a good vice, just make some! Mine came with a genuine sill which i fitted, by the time i got to the other side, i was running out of dosh so put two lengths of angle iron in the vice, slotted in some steel and by cramping the ends up wi mole grips managed to get good folds in. Cant tell the difference now it's fitted (and you can leave as much on either end as you like to fold in a neatly close up the sill)

i considered the ones from yrm esp as they are zintec , but got some from paddocks in the end , really good fit and quality for a pattern part .

cheers Mike

I can reccomend the mm sills, they are identical to the originals.I welded the inner and outer sections together before fitting them,as I dont like welding upside down, but you have to jack the body as high as you can in order to get the body mounting bolts through,I read on one of the forums that it is better to fit the inner one to the vehicle first, then weld the outer one to it on the vehicle, but it can be done the other way.Worst part is getting the old sill off.I tack welded bracing bars across the door gaps, but no one else seems to bother.

Thanks all, I think I'll opt for the M&M 4x4 sills more than likely. I'm really dreading doing them as it'll be my first ever time welding for real, but enough people have done it and succeeded so I'm sure I'll be fine.
