Hi Mates,

I have done a good assessment of the oil rotor assembly (checked out and within spec) which I cleaned and reinstalled on my newly rebuilt engine, however it would have had 165,000 miles on it and I am seriously thinking of replacing it. I have not installed the timing case as yet so was thinking as its out, to replace the rotor assembly for peace of mind.

I have spent tons of time and cash on this rebuild and I am thinking that the heart of all of this is the pump and I should change it to be safe.

I have seen LR original for over 100 pound and Bearmach for 36 pounds, what have you guys used as a safe and reliable replacement?

If it's in good physical condition and it measures in spec then is there really anything to be gained by replacing it with a new (but unproven) one after all it is just two lumps of metal at the end of the day so not much to go wrong?
 
Kwakerman, I agree, but thats my obsession with making everything perfect and worry free...same reason my projects ends up costing a fortune and taking so much time lol. Maybe I do have a touch of OCD as my pals say :)

I do have some great quality gauges to install, two of which are oil pressure and oil temperature, they are programmable for high and low reading warnings so I should be OK with any oil issues if the pump decide to give trouble.

the problem is often even supposed genuine parts for obsolete vehicles are poorer than a slightly worn original

Completely agree James, they do not make parts with the same quality as they did before, original, OEM or not.

How many parts for LR are actually made in the UK now? Its for the same reason I will see posts about parts in the blue box being the same as whats in an original packaging and that bothers me, because you shell out the extra cash for "original" parts with the hope that it lasts as long as the one that is being replaced, but this is not the case now.

no it isnt the same but by buying the "oe" you are hoping on better than the pattern ****e
