My Def TD5 needs a new crossmember. Pressbrake and MIB component appear to be the best but are both not making them any more. Britpart....I’ll give a miss, same with Paddock spares, but who is the best supplier for a decent price and fit. I guess galvanised would be the way to go. The legs are pretty good but I understand it’s easier to fit with extensions. Any pointers appreciated.

Has it failed MOT?

No, just bought it and it needs doing before next mot. I only need short extensions, up to the large hole in the O/S chassis leg max.
I would wait until it fails an MOT. Td5 crossmembers all have surface rust, the quality of the coatings at the factory was dreadful. But if it doesn't have holes near any structural attachment points, it isn't an MOT fail, and they usually go on for years.

Fair enough. A lot of people panic about the surface rust.
I wish it was surface rust but unfortunately not. You can see it delaminating down the chassis rails. Rather get it done early (whilst I can still do it myself) hence only needing short extensions, galvanised would be a bonus.

I had a heavy duty one made by Dixon fabrication, absolutely fantastic company and Ian was superb to deal with. They make crossmembers that the defender should have had from the factory! Mines was fitted by a local chap who was recommended by Foundry 4x4. If your local to South Wales then I can forward his details to you in PM. He done a fantastic job and would definitely put more work his way. Didn’t charge the Earth either.
