All,

I have just discovered my MAF sensor is faulty.

So, I need to replace it.

On Island4x4 there are three choices for my car (2000 4.6 Vogue)

1) Allmakes at £35
2) Britpart at £33
3) Bosch at £99

The faulty one is a Bosch.

Now, the question is which one should I go for?

Has anybody bought any of the cheaper two and what were they like?

If you have the pennies buy the Bosch. Trust you have absolute confirmation that your present one is US.

I disconnected the maf and the excessive revs and spluttering on kickdown disappeared. Plus the normal driving became smooth again.
 
I wouldn't touch ****part, the other may be worth a punt. You can sometimes find genuine Bosch on Ebay at good prices.

My thinking exactly!!! I've plumped for the Allmakes version.

Not a lot lost if I have got it wrong or the part fails after a time.

But I do need one urgently as I am off to Bruge this weekend.

The Allmakes and Britpart will more than likely be the same unit from the same source.
 
Oh well. If you are right Wammers and it turns out it is crap then I'll send it back and go for the Bosch. Worst case is I'll drive to Bruge with it disconnected!!!!

Plug into diagnostics to see the live data for the MAF.
Mine was reading low so a new Bosch MAF transformed the running of the car.
Everybody on here at the time suggested NOT buying anything other than a Bosch & I am glad I listened.
 
My local LR indy tried to do me a favour by fitting a cheap aftermarket MAF (can't remember the make but it was around £40)....and had to recover my P38 4.6 after the part failed within 24hrs.

Then went to the other extreme and fitted a LR original MAF which cost £170 - ouch!. HOWEVER, the P38 is now transformed! It's solved a problem with changing from 3rd to 4th when accelerating hard, returns 15.5mph extra urban where previously I'd average 12.9. and drives better now than ever before. Result!

Hopefully the part will arrive tomorrow and I will know then if it's going to work.

If there is a problem when I fit it, I will order the Bosch in replacement straight away, which should arrive by Thursday.

Just in case it fails competely whilst I am away I will take the faulty one. At least it will get me started!!

That should cover it. Though I could get the misses to follow me in hers!!!
 
Just curious but will replacing a faulty MAF show an instant improvement or does the ECU need time to adjust to a new sensor?????
 
good point Martyn.

All i know is that the improvement in performance with MAF disconnected was 100%. If you are correct it may take a couple days driving to see the benefit, which gives me some time at least.
 
Well, the part arrived and was fitted within 5 mins.

The car started - Hooray!!

Took the car for a spin - immediate change of performance - Hooray!!

So if the ECU does need to adjust to the new sensor, then it is fairly quick (5-10 miles). If the immediate performance change is only the beginning then I look forward to when it is fully adjusted.:crazy_driver:

I just have to see if this new sensor continues to work or turns into a "****part" sensor!!!
