I'm intending to gas my 2003 Discovery but am not sure which system to go for.

I've already decided I don't want a cylinder in the boot and neither do I want the torpedo type tubes incase the off road ability suffers.

So I'm left with the option of replacing the original tank with an LPG one and a small petrol tank.

I've already had a quote on this type of system, £2820

Does anyone know of a similar type system at a more affordable price?

I seriously advise against the replacing the origional tank with an lpg and smaller fuel tank.

My dad had a v8i with that setup for 3 weeks! -He could put in £30 of fuel and then the LPG. We did a 90 mile trip and was almost dry! Terrible set up.

However my uncle has 2x 35L tanks on either side of the car underneath. The tanks don't show up below the bottom of the car and are great. Its probably the best way if you dont wanna take out some space from the boot, jsut make sure you dont overload on the size of tank.

Oh and make sure its multipoint, works better on the later model (reading out of the most recent land rover owners magazone. Get one and have a look at the feature on LPG)

Are we talking new shape Disco or the Disco 11 ?

On my disco 11( for sale in the For sale Section ) I have a double cylinder set up with reserve pet tank but only because having ACE prevents torpedoes being used. The double tanks hold a USEABLE 64 lts of gas and the reserve pet tank holds approx 5 galls or enough for 75 miles. So depending on driving style, thats around 185 to 200 on gas and another 75 on pet. Your dads must have had a leak !!

I bought a 2003 v8 last year, and got a gas conversion fitted. Mine has the original petrol tank replaced with 2 gas tanks under the boot floor giving 64 usable litres for around £26.00. This gives a range of between 170 to 200 miles depending on use and driving style. The petrol tank is moved into the rear passenger wing and is approx 7 gallons in size, giving around 120 miles rang. So as you can see, I can go for up to 320 miles between refills, not far off a full petrol tank for a hell of a lot less. Performance difference (yeh right!) is almost unnoticeable, and the system has proved totally reliable. Mine is fitted with the Prins multipoint, very neat, almost looks factory fit and with 2 slightly different sized tanks fitted, I can still put on a tow bar if I so wish. You can get 2 same sized tanks fitted, which I think gives 70 litres capacity, but you then can't have a tow bar. As for off road, mine has been on 2 'mild' off road days, and to be perfectly honest the gas tanks don't sit much lower than the petrol tank, so no difference. 1 thin though, you can't go through the chunnel with a gas converted car, they are banned.

Thanks for the replies so far. We are talking the series 11 discovery and not the newest model. The system I was offered for £2820 was 80 litres of gas and 37litres of petol, it was multipoint and has its own ECU, I worked it out and to be honest that suited me perfectly, It was just the price that put me off.

Mines a BRC system,

again like other t 40 litre tanks under the rear of the car in place of the petrol tank and a small pertol tank in the rear drivers side wing.

I have got a tow bar and have no troubles off road. I also have a gaurd under the tanks to help prevent against punctures to the tanks.

think hte install on mine was around 2500 from aac-autogas in hereford

Multipoint 'Bigas' system with a single toroidal tank replacing the petrol tank with the usual 30ish litre reserve petrol tank under the rear wing, all supplied by Tinley Tech (Very helpful guys) and fitted myself cost me about £1800 all up last month. 64 litres of gas, 160 to 200 miles :) Installation was easy enough, hardest part was fitting the Petrol tank and converting existing Disco petrol pipes to the new location. Underbonnet stuff looked scary, but was actualy straightforward once I took the decision to throw out the air intake box and fit a K&N filter to give space for the gas kit! Took me a good 4 days work, but saved me a grand :))
