Not as bad as I thought, last mot was 2006.

My old carb is a high compression, it says so inside the filter housing, how will I find out about this one? Is it likely to be in the same place?

And :D

comps stamped by the dipstick tube

Had a quick look but couldn't see anything, is it a sticker or a stamp? Whole engine is very crusty and mucky with standing so will steam clean it soon but if its a sticker I will need to be careful.

Some pics of bits that have been talked about.

Can't get the key to turn in the ignition so will find out if it is a different one before stripping the wires and hot wiring it to see if it will fire.

It'll probably be part seized but I reckon it'll fire up pretty easy, just get plenty of power available for spinning over :)

might even be worth removing the plugs and spray a bit of wd down the holes, turn it over a couple times, then start it with the plugs in.

Providing the plugs will come out, unlike the 83 v8 rangy I had. Then I will treat it with kindness and connect a 165hp john deere to it with jump leads. Plenty of wd and oil in the pots. Checked the dip stick and the oil looks ok. It was parked up in November 2007... will get a video when I work on it but my 3 year old broke the screen on my laptop so down to my phone and tablet.

Right, nother thread says pour Coca-Cola in the pots and leave for a day or so, is this a good idea or will it fook things up

Yeah I can see how that could work.

Not going to be any trouble having that in there as such, just make sure you don't hydraulic it so clear the bores out first!

Cola is pretty good at dissolving stuff I suppose, but can't see how it would be much better if at all than some petrol.

I wouldnt put coke in the bores, how will you get it out effectively?it is mostly water afterall

The main problem I have with putting a water based in the bores as fett pointed out is that some of it will drain down into the crankcase.

This is not good, nobody wants to introduce water into their engine.

If the engine was suspect seized I'd be putting a penetrating lube like plus gas in there to see if that would help.

Always the risk of the bores being buggered anyway.

crank it with some wd and the plugs out is a good idea, coke is a bad idea unless its already stripped or going to be stripped that hour

Right, thought it sounded daft but thought I would ask. Wd it is, will get the bitch going :D
