I have a dilema, I currently own a 03 Vogue v8 4.4 100K mileage with lpg. its due a big service with brake discs, suspension, wheel bearings etc all needing changed. It will also need some body work as the rust is starting to show through on the rear wheel arches and tailgate.

Ive been quoted £1400 for the work but Ive also found a nice 06 plate, is there much differance between the two and would it be trading up to get the newer car?

Opinions please:confused:
 
how do you know the supercharged one wont be a lemon ? although personally I'd just like the fact its supercharged if I was buying

Upper Tailgate at the drain holes, the wheel arches where the rubber seal meets the arch, lower tailgate seams on the inside (when the gate is lowered):(.

Got a really good body shop bloke who said it would be no problem to fix.

Pretty poor though for such an expensive motor at 10 years old.:mad:
 
I'm surprised by rusting, do you live on the coast? Think I'd stick with the one you've got rather than upgrade by 3 yrs , hardly seems a point and you don't know what trouble you're buying. Better the devil you know and all that
 
was offered a 06 plate s/c about 6 months ago I was tempted but after driving the s/c I wasn't that impressed and decided to stick with my 4.4 vogue theres a saying better the devil you know
 
Not all of them have rust

Only 1 bit on mine so far

Depends how they've been looked after I think too

Personally, i would have loved it if they adopted the Citroen type suspension as opposed to air, i feel the ride, whilst good, is not all it could be, it may be mine off course, but i feel they they didn't go far enough in the this department, Bmw influence? I want waft, maybe electro magnetic dampers would bridge the gap here, but halfords don't list them Lol.i also had an X3 on hire for a few weeks (Horrible) and it was like going way back in time getting back to L322, the steering wheel felt massive !
It is a 40k car hyped up to 70k+ no doubt. For rich ****s.
 
No I don't think it is just yours, while I feel the suspension and ride is good I would not describe it as magic carpet as often quoted on this forum. Maybe is on some motorway somewhere but not on the crappy A and B roads round here. Agree too about the 40K car for 70K. Could not believe the postings I read tuther day slating Mercedes for poor build quality and rusting.
 
mercedes are terrible for rusting !!
their 2 year old sprinter vans rust making them look 10 years older

awful !
 
Oh good, not just mine. Off course everyone will have different expectations, but i crave refinement and i'm just not quite getting on this.
I doubt the high load tyres help either... Also the front subframe is hard mounted i think and on such an expensive car new i think it should have had adjustable damping, do the newer ones have this?
 
My experience of XJR Jags (same engine) is they absolutely drink petrol regardless of how you drive them, the normally aspirated V8 Jags can return very good mpg if you nurse them. The Supercharger is not very efficient - great fun though!

If has always amazed me that Citroën haven't brought out a 4x4 with their wonderful oleomatic suspension, a match made in heaven; The DS5 looks great - really nice interior - but rides like a BMW - terrible! What a missed opportunity! The only people who are going to buy big Citroëns are people who like big Citroëns and if you make them ride harshly, big Citroën buyers won't want to know - the definition of a lemon!
