I either damaged my cables when changing the engine or when I changed the heater matrix but Im only just getting around to sorting it.

Could someone tell me what the cable on the top on the heater box and the one down the side does please?:D

Currently I can change where the air comes out of (windscreen or footwell) but the fan speed lever only moves between the middle and the highest setting but the heighest setting is barely on and the middle is off :oops:

Worked fine before I broke it.
 
Only one that matters is the top one, cant rememebr what the side one does but its the top one that controls hot and cold air.
Need to make sure that when the in cab lever is in the hot position that the engine end is actually hard over, slightest bit of slack will lose you loads of heat as the flap wont be fully shut.
 
1 does screen/feet
1 does hot/cold
1 does speed & closes the flap to stop any air into the cab. If this is too tight it won't go to second stage fan.

Ive had a look and now Im even more confused as i think I had them the wrong way.

I might be imagining this, but Im sure on 'number 2' the fan was blowing alot more than it currently is.
Edit - I get nothing until the lever is at 2, the rest of the positions do nothing

Its too much of a pain to get to the side of the heater box, no space on a conversion,
Is it lever up or down that goes with the fan on number 2? I want to just leave it there with no cable attached.

The hot/cold lever I understand now, just need to set up the correct cable this time :oops:

You can get to the cables as 1 is on top of the heater
The other is in the engine bay gap.

Pop the cables off & see if you get full speed. As said before if these cables are to tight you won't get 2 speeds

Cables are both off now, I had the fan speed cable attached to the top of the heater box which was wrong, and now it moves through all the settings, but only works on number 2.
I can live with it though, I only ever had it on full or off anyway :)
I should get more heat now the hot/cold is attached to the correct lever.

Yep,
I have noticed that Its also blowing a fair bit out of the hole that the heater matrix pipes exit so I think I'm loosing a fair bit of air through there.

Adjusting the top cable correctly has given me a hell of a lot of heat now though, Its unbearable after about 15 mins on full now.
 
Would it be a bad idea to spray a little bit of expanding foam around the heater pipes to seal that area?
I did put strips of foam around the matrix when I replaced it but clearly didn't do a very good job around the pipes:rolleyes:
 
Good gaffer tape. Expanding foam would go everywhere
Normally use camping mats in the gaps when rebuilding.
At least you have warmth

I'll find some foam to fill it and tape it.
Orderd a bilge pump to shove in the air intake and 'supercharge' it.

I don't like being cold :oops:
 
Fan speed number 2 is plenty powerful enough, in my opinion, it’s the lack of vents in the cab that is the problem. I ditched the original speed switch when it stopped working a while back and fitted a simple OFF-ON-ON toggle switch, works fine.

I'm going to put a seperate switch in for the bilge fan, it'll work abit quicker to demist the screen with the diesel heater running,
Once it's up to temp the normal heater and fan are fine :)

I finished installing it today,
Id say you get about 50% more flow with the bilge fan, Def worth doing IMO.

It is a fair bit louder though, but it's not really a problem with the engine running.
