They probably were. But you know what landy owners are like they do like to tweek em. & I suppose it's not a big job to fit a tuned engine or even a 3.9 engine in one   That said they may not have been V8's they may have had tdi's or even non LR diesels in them I just know they were shifting faster than me at 75/80mph.

tis tru landy owners...they love a good tweakin.still even in a tweaked or 3.9, to go 100 in a mule that is a DEFENDER...ooooo weee ya gotta have seriously huge nuts, or a 1'O CLOCK meetin wiv th grim reeeper!

300tdi

youve got yerself a good economical vehicle thatle pull up hills . tow any weight your likely to need and very reliable and easily serviced .

why do you think its the choice of various armys ?

If you go for a V8 make sure you get one with an LPG conversion because at 9 to 18mpg you're gonna spend a lot of money on petrol.

Pos If you can get 28mpg out of a n/a traccta your a fooking miracle worker. try 25mpg max!!

I've had 30.06 MPG on a run to Newcastle and back

I thought it was proven that the 200 tdi engine was more efficient and slightly quicker than the 300 tdi?

Nope it's the almost the same engine. they only changed it to keep up with changes to emissions rules.

people thinks its differnt cos when they open the enjin bay there is a plastic cover . but if thats a sfar as yer landy nolegde goes then which enjin you have is the least of yer problems.

Lol, I know that it has a huge cover. The engine was standardised though, with the same 300 tdi engine being used for both the disco and the defender, where as the 200 tdi came in two different variations, one for the disco and one for the defender.

I'm sure that I've read that the 300 tdi was a heavier engine which didn't run as quick as the 200 tdi. Obviously not!
