mine is 140 with the yellow insert below.

I have had a look at paperwork and a new expansion tank and cap were fitted some years ago at the same time as split expansion tank breakdown.

that would make sense if it was done to reduce the pressure in the expansion tank to stop it splitting, in other words the tank isn't up to the job so they have cuffed a solution

do you have any cooling issues?

no cooling issues. in the summer with 27deg ambient, got stuck in a major traffic jam for 2hrs after towing for 11/2hrs and no problems. Gauge sat firm and all ok..

Thanks for the info, i may just use this one and see what happens, i have just done a major rebuild on the gearbox and also a lot of cooling system jobs so i am running just water at the moment to make sure there is no leaks so once thats proved i 'll drop it in.

yours is a 4.4 petrol isn't it?

cheers

Quick update, i couldn't be bothered to return the 140 cap so i put it in to replace the broken one which had a chunk missing and only a single o ring and its been fine so far, temp gauge sits bang in the middle same as with the other cap.

i will have forgotten all about it by next summer when it boils dry and i'll be back on here looking for answers why........
