Support a local business. National chains tend to have a high price model and hope people will pay the premium because of there big name. They try to catch people by saying things like buy 3 and get 4th free. People who can be bothered to check find you can buy 5 tyres for the price they want for 3. You might have a good local place that has a low price/high turn over business model. Also, use post code. Prices in a local shop in an affluent post code will be higher cos most people can't be botherered to travel or are snobs. I get an indication of orice, so I don't get ripped off, then use a local business using above strategy.

Really depends, I have bought tyres online before and then ended up paying £10 each to have them fitted so the reality was that they were less than a couple of pints cheaper in the end, not to mention the hassle of throwing them in the back and going to get them fitted, I've got a local place here (700yds off my doorstep) who will come round and collect the car and fit tyres and then drop it off again, all I have to do is BACS them the cash into their account, I'm planning to do the same again when I need new boots on my Discovery. There are some companies who will fit tyres on your drive, very convenient and although they "might" seem more expensive, I bet there is little difference in it by the time you take the diesel and aggro of waiting around into it, providing you put a cost on your own time that is.
£130 per tyre aint much is it, my Cooper STT were €200 each plus fitting when I bought them in 2013

You say that you're in the market for three tyres. You might get a better deal if you look for a "special" offering a package on a set of four.
Regarding delivery, the first time I used an online supplier I had them delivered to me at home which left me with the slight problem of getting them to my local indie so that he could fit them.
The second time I discussed it with my garage and had the tyres delivered straight there and the garage just rang me to arrange fitting. Yes, doing it that way will have to cough up for the fitting, about 10 to 15 quid per wheel. So it's swings and roundabouts.

Thanks guys for you input, spending a bit more time searching, I've found I can get a set of bigger alloys with nearly new tyres for around the same price, then I could just get the original wheels refurbed with new tyres at my leisure, incase the weather does get bad this winter. Road tyres for summer and m&s for winter.

Be aware that while M+S tyres are quite usual for UK weather, true cold climate or winter tyres will not only carry the M+S marking but will also have the "Three peaks and a Snow Flake" logo on the sidewalls:-
