Hi all. I am looking for my first land rover S2A/3 since I got rid of my S3 15 years ago. I've been looking for less then a month on the usual selling sites where there are quite a few (more miles away from me though), but where are all the LWB 109's? There are SWB coming out of peoples ears, but not many LWB about or at least near me (Sheffield). Ideally i want a LWB, but I'm missing having a landy in my life that i may settle for a SWB, lol.

Hello and welcome.

You often have to travel to get what you want but many end up getting scrapped as they don't fetch the same as a SWB and as they're so big they end up getting weighed in or broken for parts.

Hi diesel, Thx for your reply. I can't see why they wouldn't fetch as much tbh, I think they are much more practical and comfortable to ride in then a SWB. I'm not giving in on getting a big baby yet, lol.

Practicality TBH, a 109 is quite a big thing and quite intimidating if you are just looking for a tinkering toy and not to mentionit would be the same reason why 90s fetch more than the miles more practical 110.

I get where you are coming from. I probably should have mentioned that my first road legal vehicle was a 109 S3 County and as I work for the ambulance service, i'm not new to throwing a big lump around like a LWB.

My first Land Rover product was a 1981 Range Rover Classic with no anti roll bars, used to wallow through the corners and roundabouts could scare the crap out of you as it had quite a bit of poke for such a big motor

Good luck with your search.

When I was looking for my first landy, I wanted a series 3 and put a lot of thought into whether I should get a swb or lwb. I realise the swb are easier to drive especially off-road but neither of those reasons interested me. I also wanted an old school winch mostly for the look of the thing. Eventually, I found a 109 station wagon (with a fairey winch), it can be a bugger in tight parking spaces but it is much more versatile than a swb. With the back seat folded forward, I can get tonnes of stuff in it. In an ideal world, I would have my 109 and a swb series 2 cos I love the headlamps in the fron panal look. Unfortunately wives and ideal worlds tend to clash.

My old RRC Vogue 3.9 was like that  Once I knew how far it pitched and rolled and I had great fun in it. :D
Unfortunately a mate managed to roll his across the Chiswick roundabout on the A4... entered the roundabout too fast in the wet, slammed on the anchors to avoid a HGV and rolled it 3x; totalled the car and spent a couple of months in hospital. Coppers said if he'd been in anything else he'd been dead!

Cheers all. I'm in no rush to buy one, i'll sit and wait for a LWB, but it the right SWB turns up i'll snap it up. I've had a look at 2 SWB over the weekend, but i'm not sure what planet some of these folks are on with their prices.
