Well seriously were does one start. bought my freelander td4 auto 61000 f, s, h on the 27 /3/2013. I have always wanted one and I had recently purchased a caravan so no excuse not to buy one £7000. ;)
Quite content with the girl I drove her home and started to look on here for mods to improve a very poor performance if the truth be told. Anyways without mods did around 1000 miles towing trip and 300 just bobbin about. Fitted a egr bypass and Ron box synergy 2 ;)
The results amazin .But after 200 miles booom! SHE died, massive tow to the garage full investigation result 1 injector xxxxxx 3 only passin 7cc instead of 12cc. Took the Ron box off just incase. my warranty would only cover the 1 xxxxx injector £250. So I had all 4 done and the 2.5 litres too much oil somebody had put in removed and new oil.
Now shes back and running with only the egr bypass on and puffing a little sooty smoke to be honest and I am £1000 worse off for the pleasure.
I now have a car i darnt take to the airport incase it breaks down. And in truth I am in pain at the untrust for what I once considered a premium brand.:violent:
So what now ? Ron says the box isn't to blame. I am scared of putting it back on!(and is the sooty smoke just from the egr and I am being parrnoid?)

Sorry to hear your new toy hasn't been the smooth ride you hoped for. I know it's a pain and will cost you a little more money why don't you put it in to a trusted garage and get them to carry out a full inspection? That way you can base your decision on some hard facts. As for the box I can't see that causing the injectors to croak. I've had cars remapped which have covered another 60k miles without a hic up. Just to make you feel better my P38 has cost me 500 quid since i got her around a month ago. You just never know what your going to get until you've had it for a while if you buy second hand.
 
You will find many of us running Ron's boxes for many years with out any problems.

If its was found to have 2.5 lts too much oil in then that would be a major concern for me as the potential engine damage that it can cause, blowing seals ect.

If the dealer had serviced it before you got it & had overfilled the oil by so much i would have serious words with them.....
 
I would replace crankcase breather and also flush intercooler and intercooler pipes as with that much oil in the engine some would have entered the intake.

Just my two pennies worth

I got my classic in January , sinse then I have thrown £2500.00 at it including a replacement engine, a friend of mine has an 06 plate disco 3 and he has spent £2000 on it in 12 months,

Another friend of mine got a Nissan pathfinder he had it 6 weeks and the bottom of the engine dropped out on the motorway, new engine cost £4500.00

Think I will stick with landrovers. !!!!!!
 
I bought it from an independant garage, however it was a trusted friend of mine who repaired her. The whole car sounds different now I.e before the breakdown there was no real turbo noise and now there is. Only the sucking noise though. As for the smoke well I will just but it down to the bypass I think. I am gonna be brave and try the airport run....:fighting::fighting:

hiya

ive had a ron box fitted for 3 years and has been brilliant

i think youve just been unlucky

personally would spend a day, giving the engine a good service, egr bypass, install the bmw crankcase, fit a new inline turbo filter, new air filter

check all ur turbo and intercooler hoses, run some millers injector cleaner through itn

or if your unsure book it into a good reputable garage and allow them to put it on a tester, but make sure u do the mods and that will hopefully reduce the breakdown, problems etc

have got a 2002 td4 with 177,000 miles on the clock and only since owning it for 3 years having to replace the rear suspension and new brake lines

would defentely have another one and great cars to drive

have you not contacted the seller and Trading standards?? if not why not??

In which case it would be covered and dealers issue to fix- look at the "crock of ****" in the general section of forum we have covered this many times

Absolutely!! £7000 is a top price for a Freelander 1 especially an auto, as such it should be pretty perfect. The dealer sold you a car in which the oil had 50% more than it should, this could easily cause all sorts of problems. Don't mess with the dealer tell them you want it sorted or your money back.

can i ask with that much excess oil in it would it blow the piston rings

re read ur entire post and agree with the rest take it back to them and tell them to sort it out

have they got a facebook, twitter account as that normally works, by putting bad feedback on their sites and certainly wont like it,

hope u get it sorted out and the garage steps up and fixes it for u, considering the amount of money youve paid for it

could always get an independant report so u know exactly what needs to be fixed and dont try and palm you off with multiple vists and inconvinience

You bought a vehicle without checking what the oil was like by pulling out the dipstick, or taking oft the oil filler cap?

I think it's a bit late for that, it should have gone back to the dealer before it was repaired.
 
Thanks everyone. The car did the airport 30 mile run speeds 70 ish without any bother .When I get home its the crank filter ,millers and the Ron box back on .Seller is paying for the one knackered injector as the others being changed is at my discretion. So fingers crossed for some trouble free motoring. As for the oil. The seller claims no knowledge
