Eventually I want to add a bunch of stuff that'll power on/off with the ignition; for now I just want to get my dash cam in so it's automatic with the engine.

Where is the easiest place to get to so I can tap off the ignition signals for the different positions? Back of the stereo or lighter socket would do basic on/off I guess; but is there a better alternative, particularly to get at the distinction between "aux" and "on" positions?

Try the pointed S12 free socket ... a female spade receptacle goes well on it

On my disco I have a small unit with 3 plugins and a USB connection which connects to the original lighter socket.
Fits ver neatly above the lighter socket. Was in the car when I bought it.
If that sounds enough try a search on Amazon.

The lighter socket is already in use for charging phones, and I'm trying to avoid more clutter and wires - would rather everything was nicely hidden.

The S13 socket recommended above is perfect, but I'd love to find a connector for the S12 socket below it,. if anyone knows where to find it. My eBay searches haven't produced any results.
