My HB linkage all seized up. I dunno why, but I got carried away and replaced it with x-brake from foundry 4x4 (which is a disk transmission brake that uses a JCB mechanical caliper on the disk).
It's both a brilliant bit of kit and completely wasted on me. A well maintained drum transmission brake is just as good - as long as it's not too full of water and mud.
