Who in their right mind would wan't to tow a lorry with a disco. Don't HGV have have recovery trucks for that.

YL4X4 Response pulled a stranded bus and 3 jack knifed lorries out of snowdrifts last week. I'm pretty sure most of the othe response teams were similarly engaged.

HGV recovery trucks seldom have all wheel drive. Though me brothers old recovery company had an old ex army tank recovery truck and that was pretty useful in snow/mud etc.

I have some HUNDREDS of 15 foot lengths of polypropylene three strand ropes that measure about 90mm around using a tape.

I will part with these ropes for £1 each plus post.

If anyone wants to organise something, I could send a huge box down full of them.

I'd like a few of these.
Can you PM me your contact details Charlesy?

wanted to see if it could be done :D

I did it on Monday of last week.

"Towing" can mean several things.

If we were trying to tow a 40 tonner with a dead engine. we might be in trouble, but towing a truck that has got all its power working, MAY provide enough EXTRA traction to get it moving, and to keep it moving, assuming its driver is on the ball and pays attention.

It looks more impressive than it probably is!

Towing daft drivers in BMW 5-series is fun. Even if they jam on their brakes and stop all 4 wheels from turning, my Disco 2 TD5 on Grabber AT2s still towed them along quite merrily - but they slithered around because they have no steering if their front wheels ain't turning.

It's not uncommon for Landy's to tow lorries in certain circumstances. Though, I'm sure Gaylanders are excluded from that.

Sorry to bring back an old thread, CharlesY you still got any of those ropes left?

Hundreds.

The ends are not spliced. Can you learn to do that yourself?

There's no point in sending one or two.
If we are sending a parcel, fill it with these ropes, and get value.

I would splice each end of one rope, enough to PRESS over a 50mm ball or to take a shackle.

No-one has yet broken one of these ropes.

Ok then I can get 20 or 25 off CharlesY. If you are coming past one day you could pick them up or pay postage .. up to you..

How much is it gonna cost to send 25 from you charlesy?

CharlesY LZ won't let me pm you .. says you have chosen not to receive them? So far I have found homes for about 30 ropes maybe more soon.

Keep at it!
The more the better.
I have an account with TNT and can send a hefty 20 kilo parcel overnight for under £15. It only costs a little more as the weight goes up.

It would be Sunday at the earliest for packing anyway.

When I do send them, make sure you find the one I will splice eyes on.
Then you will see what we find is best.

I will fix the PM block right now.

Ok great, may not be able to do this until I get paid however, now we have so many interested! I'll have to to work out some finances.
