Big low profile wheels on a Rangie aren't the most comfortable ride and in your neck of the woods, they must be a nightmare on snow and slush. I think the best wheels for drive quality for the P38 are 18" - there are a few styles around, Mondials I think look better than Hurricanes, but aren't that easy to find, also Disco 2 wheels fit AFAIK and X5 (the E53 models) fit as well. P38 Rangies are fussy about tyres, many prefer Pirelli Scorpions, but there are people on the forum happy with other makes. If you live in a rural area of Wales you may want to get some winter tyres as well and swop around from Dec - April, although the Rangie will manage ok, from experience, on Pirelli Scorpions. The winter tyres just give added rip and abaility on icy / wet/ snowy roads. The Rangie is a much more comfortable ride than a Defender - I reckon you should find some decent wheels, sell the big 'uns to one of the dozens who want them, and keep the Rangie! You could use 16" RR wheels (from early P38s) and they are usually available really cheap but the P38 looks well balanced on 18" wheels.
