Had a very similar problem with mine. Scared the **** out of me when all four wheels locked up & it would only go in reverse. Mine turned out to be a collapsed bearing in the transfer box. All the bits fell in to the cogs & when you drove it & changed gear or put the breaks on i assume the pressures on the gears moved which caused it to pick up the bits in the box & bang it would lock up. put it in reverse & the bits would fall loose until next time. The way to find out is to take the PTO cover off the back of the transfer box & pull out the gear. If still not sure you will need the take off the panel off the side. If your luck was like mine get ready to catch a load of racers & bits of shims. Good luck & i hope you get sorted
 
Mine was Wheel bearing. total collapsed. rollers were destroyed. How I got it from Morecambe to Blackpool I will never know. But all sorted now.
Wheel kept locking up. but grinding was horrendous. Thought it was the diff bearings or transfer Input bearings but started with the wheel and thank goodness that's what it was.
 
SOLVED ----

So the calliper is ok and so are the break pipes but can anyone recommend a decent thread lock compound! and what bolts size do i need to replace the lost one. i dont have accurate measuring tools! (thread ect)

Loctite 083. But the bolt and its mating thread must be clean for this or any other to work.

I'd get a genuine replacement bolt from a dealer as (as you've discovered) it's a sensitive application.....

And BTW you shouldn't ever use the handbrake to stop except in emergency as it works on the transmission and can cause expensive damage.....
 
he didnt tighten it up if truth is known easy mistake and not the fault of loctite, a properly tightened bolt with or without torque wrench,with or without loctite wont come loose
