My current wheels on on 90Td5 are ancient and damaged. Alloys kerbed and amateur painted (not by me!) and one leaks. I am thinking of replacing the whole set. Current size 7J*16 ET33. Can I fit same size with ET0 or 16*8 with the same tyres as now 235/85R16 as I have seen wheels I like in both sizes.

Here is a picture of offset - all based on centre line of wheel.

I run 16x8 ET0 offset modulars on mine with 265/75/16. So you will have no issues with the wheel, offset or that size of tyre on your vehicle. The real question is whether a 235 can be fitted to an 8" rim. From memory I think a 235 rim width range is 6-7.5" so i don't think you can fit them to an 8" rim. however you would need check the tyre specifications for your make and model of tyre on the manufactures website

The rims will fit fine and give a slightly wider stance. The 235/85 technically has a recommended rim of 6.0 - 7.5", so will look a little stretched on an 8" rim, but it will physically fit. If you are looking at new tyres, a 265/75R16 is about the same diameter, just a little fatter and would suit this width rim better.
