Firstly a quick hello as this is my first post, i picked up a cheap FL with seized vcu which i have quickly removed as not to damage anything else so only 2wd for me at the moment !

My question is do any other 4x4 wheels fit on the freelander as i have a very large 4x4 breaker near me and has a huge selection of wheels with tyres some good and some not so good. I am just wondering if i can't get a set of FL wheels with decent tyres can i use some from say a trooper, shogun, suzuki etc ? Reason for changing is my tyres are worn and they are on 17 inch alloys genuine LR ones. I would ideally like to get some 16 inch rims with decent tyres and then when they are worn i have i larger selection of tyre to choose from.

Once this is sorted i will sort the VCU buy which time some one will have worked out how to refill them diy style :D

PS I am hoping to use the FL for shooting with the hardtop off anybody else tried this in there 3 door ?

Just buy some new tyres and keep your FL as Land Rover intended.
You don't what to look like a knob with the wrong wheels.
:)

not sure about the other makes of wheel but make sure that the newest/largest tyres are on the back, as this helps avoid VCU failure, although if you have taken drive off the back axle...

I am a bit limited when it comes to AT tyres with 17 inch rims thats the problem ?
And I am going for a full set all round so that shouldnt be a problem.

Keep the wheels you have for every day use with new tyres and buy a second hand set of FL steel wheels(16 inch) with mud tyres for off roading.
:)

I see what your saying but this FL is only really going to get used for the shooting, fishing etc no real distance road work its just gonna be a work horse in a rural location so cant see the point of having a set of fancy wheels and a set of steel wheels. I just want a set of 16 inch rims so i can have a larger choice when it comes to tyres. Not bothered what they come off as long as they do the job ? Thanks for replys so far !

Well if that's the case then just buy the FL steel wheels.
If you put wheels off some thing else then the offset will be wrong this will cause problems

Thanks spence think i will try and get LR wheels then as i dont want to cause more problems once the VCU is back on working ? Any body used Bell engineering for a Recon VCU ?

Well chaps just been down the breakers and i got a set of FL alloys with BF Goodrich tyres all got really good tread £50 each !! Bargain !
