Hi,

Noobie question here.....

I'm looking to drop down from 17" rims to 16" in order to stick a set of Grabber AT2's on, but do I need to worry about the offset?

I've got an '06 Td4 HSE and I think I've read somewhere the offset is 35 - is this right? I've seen a few wheels around with an offset of 46....

Do I need to worry about the offset, or just the PCD, which I think is 5x114?

I've also read that early FL wheels <'01 won't fit an '06 FL - is this right, or can I just pick any old set of FL wheels (obv not FL2) :confused:

I been around Google so many times and not really getting a definitive answer....:(

Wheels from a freelander before 2001 will not fit your car ,the larger callipers fitted after 2001 make contact with the spokes on the wheels,I believe the offsets are the same its the thickness of the spokes that is the problem.Steel wheels from any year will fit,dont know what the offset is though sorry.
 
The earlier wheels have a different offset to the later wheels.

The picture above is from an 06 TD4 auto, there are small dimples between each of the holes for the studs, on some wheels these are small holes strait through.

When you look on eBay look for the dimples/holes, ignore what the seller tells you. I can speak from bitter experience. No dimples/holes walk away.

you can actually fit the earlier wheels, they will go on, but ...........

About 3 miles further on you will hear a machine gun sound, this is the spokes trying to knock the front caliper off. VERY SCARY.
Change the front wheels back to the originals and the first corner you come to will be interesting, the rear wheels are no longer sitting flat on the hub, the spokes are resting on the outside edge of the brake drum, allowing them to weave. :eek:
 
I went for 215/70 R16 , this gave a little extra lift but did raise the gearing slightly. Tended to turn top into an overdrive in the auto.
Brilliant off road, noisier on road, never going to beat road based Michelins on damp tarmac, but then again beat them hands down when there was a lot of standing water.
 
Thinking about these:

FREELANDER SET OF 5 ALLOYS 16 INCH WITH TYRES WHEEL NUT on eBay (end time 14-Oct-10 19:45:17 BST)

But they're off a 2000 V6 and I'm not sure whether they'll fit my '06 TD4.

The part number is: RRC114800XXX

Any ideas if 16" alloys from a Y2K Petrol V6 fit an '06 TD4???

I've had a chat with the guy and we're not too sure so I thought some of the clever people on here might know - got a good price without the rubber on them, so I hope they do fit.

They're the same pattern wheel as my 2001 v6. Would have thought all v6's would be the same as the 2001 model year (probably started late 2000) had an upgrade to the brakes etc as well as a lot of other things.
 
Just called Quickco (got their number off the LR site) and enquired about what wheels would fit my Hippo ('06 TD4 HSE)....

The only part number they gave me (after him asking why I needed a part number) was: RRC504630MNH. Apparently these are the only wheels that fit a 6A onwards Chassis number.

I asked about the wheels with RRC1148000XXX part number and the guy said that these definitely would not fit.

So, are you saying that the wheels that do not have the dimples/holes definitely won't fit?

I have a set of 16" wheels with no dimples/holes that came off a 2003 Freelander, with a view to fitting to my 2005 TD4 (dropping from 17" to fit AT tyres). I tried them on today - without driving anywhere - and they seemed to fit fine. No interference with the brake calipers or anything. In fact, they seemed to be roughly the same distance (c.10-15mm) away from the calipers as the 17" wheels I currently have fitted.

Before I go & spend £500 on a set of AT tyres, I obviously want to be sure and don't really fancy taking the gamble!
 
I'm not too sure myself, but have just bought a set of 5 16" without the dimples - I got the part number from the garage and checked with LR - they said they would be ok....I hope they're right.

What's the part number for your 16"?

Not sure mate - will check tomorrow (can't be arsed heading out into the cold, dark garage tonight! :eek::D)

Like I said, the fact they came off a 2003 FL means, from what I understand anyway (?), that they should be okay.

Okay, so I've got the following part number on my 16's: RRC002960XXX

Does that tie in with the part number you got ok'd by any chance?
 
The part number in the wheels I got was: RRC504630XXX

It may be a case that because they didn't come of the same model freelander. Best thing to do would be to call a local LR dealer and talk to the parts dpt.

I bought 3 sets of 16" wheels - 13 in all, damn near killed myself - twice - The ones I bought with the dimples fitted, the ones I tried without dimples did not. I'll grant you some of the ones without dimples may fit, but the last thing I need is someone having an accident that I could have helped prevent. Let alone someone spending cash on a set of wheels and fitting that they cannot use.
 
Jeezo, not really straightforward this, is it?! :doh:

So, I called my local LR dealer and, if I'm honest, the guy I spoke to in the parts department didn't fill me with confidence! After giving him the part number he said "They should be okay", but wasn't really 100% convincing in my eyes. He reckons, going by the part number, they are 'accessory' wheels, meaning that they didn't come as standard with the FL they came off(?). He did confirm that they were 5-spoke (which they are) 'Freedom' alloys though, which does tie in. He also said that they were to fit a FL with a chassis number 1A to 5A. So, stupid question time: where can I find my chassis number?! :eek: I had a wee hunt around the engine bay and in the paperwork/logbook, but can't see anything resembling that.

My next (and final!) line of attack will be to take them in to the guy that services & maintains my FL (an indendant LR specialist in Edinburgh) and ask his advice!

Beginning to regret this whole idea of switching to AT tyres now! :D
 
The chassis number is on a plate on the passenger side door post.The wheels without dimples will not fit(they will if your brake pads are worn but you will be in trouble when you fit new pads)because the calliper moves out and catches the wheel.

So the wheels without dimples are pre-2001?
