Does anyone know the part number, or where I can buy, a front wheel bearing for a TD5 (year 2000) discovery. the parallel type not tapered.
I know it is usually sold as complete assembly (expensive). but I have access to full workshop with facilities for pressing out the bearing etc. - so, I just want the bearing itself. I've heard this is available, just not promoted...

DOES ANYONE HAVE THE INSIDE INFO ON WHERE I CAN GET THIS

If u succeed u will be my hero...........as far as i know and had a few Disco 2 hubs in my hands .....it's impossible......it's a built in bearing not designed to be removable.
 
can't take the credit myself - I have a man who can, works at a formula one race track... assures me he can do it - but only if I can get a replacement bearing... so far, I'm still looking- any ideas???
 
find a local bearing supplier-if it is in any way available-they should be able to match it

I have the ones i've replaced in the garage......if u want i could try to make some measurements with callipers but i'm not sure i can see the bearing's exterior circumference and thickness.
 
I am guessing you have got to be near Ronda if the guy works at a racetrack. There is a place just south of Antequera that may be able to help.
 
The guy I used is an agricultural mechanic in the village. I have done a few bits with him and bearing related things in the past. You show him the bit you want. He looks at it and a couple of days later he phones up. You collect it. he is real old school. nothing is not repairable/obtainable. I deal with him face to face, but I will get his phone number for you. Regards Paul.

On an earlier post in this thread, discool posted a link to a how-to for bearing replacement. You can clearly see the bearing markings on a couple of those pictures (though not clearly enough to actually READ the markings:().

The majority of bearings are marked with a code, from which you can find a replacement. The code, will tell you the size, heat rating etc of the bearing.

Any bearing supplier should be able to source a bearing from the bearing marking. Some very specialised bearings may be hard to source.

I've cleaned the old one and : USA - TIMKEN - JRM 4549 ESE.....then i googled out and found this http://www.alliedbearings.com/downloads/BrgDimenIndex-Chap4.pdf i'm not familiar with this kind of tables........ what i've found untill my patience went out is that the letters from the sufix are:
E = Cone & Cup > Cones or cups having special characteristics differing from and non-interchangeable with other cones or cups identified with the same basic part numbers.
S = Cone & Cup Special feature bearing. (Non-interchangeable with bearings having same basic part numbers)

Maybe somebody more familliar with bearing issues will sort this out.......

I wo'nt be so happy yet;).......i will be after u'll succeed......it seems that the bearing's exterior element is merged with the hub's body

Just before you give up for good, try this guy. He is a top end fella, a little intense perhaps but the top man for Campo vehicles. He has access to all kinds of spares and is well connected. 699198342 . His name is Bryan.
