I know that you guys have probably discussed this to death. But i need to confirm if my thoughts and learnings are correct. There are consideration with going away from standard of course. But trying to find initially what will physically fit a stanard D2 with no cutting or altering stops etc. Just put on and drive away.
Then i can look at other pros and cons. My disco 2 is standard. Air rear . Thats the way it will probably stay at present. But may well fit different front and rear bumpers later on to help with angles but at present its stock.

Sat on at present 255/65 R16 and with alloys. All stock there i think.
The beauty will be used off road on the plain and lanes with even some futher trpis to the continent envisaged for some adventure tours. So was thinking of some All terrains.
The recent LRO comparison tested in the magazine had basically had the Goodrich KO2 coming out top. so was tempted.
1.But they only do 255/70 r16s Put these on my alloys and Will these fit under a standard D2. ? as i believe are a few mm taller.
2. The Grabber At3 that i had used previously on my P38 do come in 255/65/r16 and so there fore I presume will fit.? The trips that i did with that machine never got stuck. Where as some were being pulled out.
3.Paddocks are offering Modular wheel and tyre packages and have the Ko2 235/70 r16 on a modular rim. These i understand will fit a standard disco 2. ?
4.My fourth option could be to fit the Ko2 255/70 to these modular rims . Would these fit a standard disco.? Thinking if offsets etc are different for these rims.?
Of course there are many options and opinions on the subject and a quick internet search bombards one with options.

To be honest believe the safest in not wasting my money could be the Grabber At3 on my standard Alloys but would like to know if you guys had had experience of the sizes i am suggesting and whether they physically fit as a first step.

In a nutshell: 255/65R16 and 235/70R16 are both standard dimensions. To get the best response from all the systems on your untuned vehicle stay as close to std as possible but do not exceed 5% circumference difference and that's maximum limit, bigger tyres without proper powertrain tuning for that dont have pro's only con's. Period

Don't get too obsessed with tyres sizes, i.e. stick with standard sizes and unless you are going to be punting around off road a real lot of time, stick with all terrains. Both Goodrich and Generals are fine I have had and still have both on my Discos. They will do amazing things.Trust the manufacturers to get one thing right.

Grabber AT3 are very good and the 255/65 size looks a bit better with the wider tyre i reckon, than a 235/70.

Just about to oder my tyres when i spotted the Falken Wildpeak A/T 01. In standard size. Anybody tried these.?

I didnt try them but the pattern looks nice in the pictures

New wheels and tyres arrived today. In the end went for the Falken Wildpeak AT on modular wheels. Standard size.

Front tyres and wheels on whilst i had a little time. Pleased with wheels and tyres.
Wheel nuts. These were supplied with it and whilst they are tight and have enough thread to hold . Approx 18 mm of total depth of their 25 mm. Just llok odd. Had a look on net and people seem to have the same issue but could not see a difinitive answere. It appears to be only cosmetic. Anybody no the diameter and pitch of the studs if i was to look for a different nut. Would just like to glance at them and see a bit of stud.
Had a bit of rummage on the net and seem to have located a cap to keep the worst of the muck out the hub.

Let me know how the Falkens perform. My only experience with Falken tyres was far from good, but that was on a VW Corrado!!
Your old tyres don't look too bad though, the cracking is more of a cosmetic issue, and would only get an advisory on the MOT (should only ever be a fail if the steel belts are visible through the cracks). That said, I prefer a good A/T tyre to a highway terrain tyre any day!!

Have Falken tyres on my mgf. Perfectly fine with them on that. Although i do drive not as quick as some. Price on the rims from Paddocks not too bad.

Going on the plain in a couple of weekends time but that will probably be a dust bowl and not a true test for them.

must admit, I was comparing the Falkens I had against the Toyo Proxes they'd replaced, and only went for the Falken as I couldn't afford more Toyo.
I've heard mixed things about the Falken A/T's (the good slightly outweigh the not so good), but not from anyone in a D2.
I'm having a set of Hankook A/T's (mainly because I work for Hankook and get a staff discount), but planning a career change in about 12-18months time, so planning ahead .

Have fun on the plain, I've never been......yet. But if the weather continues as it is, you may have some good conditions to test the rubber and what they can do.

Ive got those same wheels and nuts from paddocks, nuts been fine and no issues. Put a bead of silicone on the gap between the 2 wheels sections to keep crud out and help avoid rust. Top tip from A 4x4 is born from back in the day : )
