Hi

I have had a look on a nice Defender i'd like to buy. It's a Defender 90" (converted to a soft top) from '97, 300TDI. I noticed that the left rear wheel outer edge sits about 1-1,5 cm further outside the wheel arch than the right rear wheel. The wheels are 285-75/16. I have tried to switch the wheels with another pair 265-75/16, same indication, the outer tire edges sits with different distances to the wheel arches.

When driving the steering and breaking are straight.

How much importance should I lay in this?

Typical Land Rover build quality. It is more than likely that the body isn't mounted completely squarely on the chassis, or the wheel areches are slightly different widths
 
Thank you for your replies. So if I want to know if it is square, should I take it to the shop, or can I do it at home?
 
Laser Wheel Alignment is cheap and most places offer a free check with just a charge to adjust. Just be careful of cowboys who tell you it needs adjusting just so they can charge you.
