I am very grateful for all the advice as we have never attempted anything like this before (always left repairs to the garage) No the engine doesnt turn over but we know we have a dodgy starter motor which we are going to replace. We wanted to be sure that the pipe in question was for petrol and nothing else.
The owner died of an unexpected brain heamorage a year after his wife dies of hodgkins lymphoma leaving 4 children orphaned. They are selling his things to make some money to live on. The family are friends of ours and we thought we'd give the landy a go as the owner was using it before he died and we need something to tow with but have almost no money to go out and buy something like a discovery that already runs
Bit far for me, otherwise I'd come and give you a hand geting it started. Don't forget that you should be able to start it using the starter handle if you have one. Might be good to check you can turn it over by hand before going to lots of expense just in case the engine is siezed or there's something more serious wrong with it. Best of luck anyway.
