thought this looked odd, probably a seal of some sort. It is only on the outer edge (shown in the pictures) not on the inside of the wheel. Does anyone know which seal this is, how easy it is to fix plus any tips? Thanks. As you can see the oil has been sprayed by the spinning of the wheel.

axle breather blocked ?frc4377 hub cap ,might be poor if its replace it ,if its from drive member it can be removed cleaned and resealed with silicone sealant
 
Can only bock the breather by driving deep water right? Havent done any of that, and I believe I have raised breathers. So what could it be? I dont really know much about this side of things :) . Would a damaged hub cap really cause this? ;o
 
breathers block for many reasons not just wading ,its very common .pressue builds and oil is forced out easiest place ,try a new cap
 
I dont think it is the axle hub seal as oil is not leaking from the brake drum or the inside of the wheel, it just from behind the cap and those bolts
 
I had the paper gasket behind the drive member leak on mine, if it is that you should be able to see where the oil is seeping out, new gasket for pennies and it's all good.

If it's just on front face of wheel and not coming from brake drum it indeed shouldn't be hub seal, most likely cap or gasket - both very cheap and easy to change.

Though do check axle breather like James said, notorious for causing axle leaks.
 
I think my probelm will be removing the hub nuts to change the gasket - they're going to be a right bastard to get off i recon :D
 
New wheel bearing kit with everything you need is only about £30 a corner (oe). Don't bother with the cheap ones- you'll be doing it again in 3 months!
But def check breather like people are saying.
 
Ive just had a closer look, seems the oil is seeping from under the hub cap, not rom behind the nuts where the hub gasket is. Maybe it is just the cap and not the gasket. Hope it is not the breather as that'll be a right pain in the arse to sort I think >.<
 
ya halfshaft oilseal is fooked remove hub where it joins the axle case and replace the seal.

Had the exact same thing on the 90's rear axle.
