never seen that set up on a rad,View attachment 150934 Does anybody know what this thread is? It's on the radiator fill / balance pipe, coming from the header tank. The rad is from a Disco, and none of my various pipe fittings fits. The local plumber shop can't help either. It seems not to be BSP. I need to fit a new bit of tube, but don't want to upset anything until I know I can get a replacement if needed.
its not the rad thread then but the pipe union, what spanner size is the fittingThe second pic shows where it comes from. The OD is 12mm, and the thread pitch is (as far as I can see) one thread per mm. My local hydraulic shop is open on Monday, so I can take it in there to see if they can help.View attachment 150935
Sorry James, my first post wasn't clear. A 14mm spanner fits the nut.its not the rad thread then but the pipe union, what spanner size is the fitting
The pipe shows signs of having been brazed while in place. If I bugg3r the fitting removing the pipe I want a fighting chance of replacing it.Am I missing something? Why not just reuse that fitting with a new pipe?
The larger thread is 1/2"BSP, so tomorrow I will be drilling and tapping the brass adaptor to BSP, which means I will be able to use a 90 degree bend and hose adaptor I have to hand. Problem solved, thanks to everyone who responded.14mm could possibly be 9/16" which could make the fitting an old-style 1/4 clutch pipe male end with an olive fitted.
The pipe is easily available as are the ends. However, I would beg or borrow a flaring tool to make off the end rather than fit an olive.
It joins the rad balance tank, permitting coolant to flow between the header / balance tank and radiator. What ever it is it is not standard. What does it do?
