I went to look at a Freelander today. I'm thinking of buying it to either do up or use the bits off it to get mine back to 4WD.
On the IRD I noticed a big 'block' that's bolted on with the rear pinion - it looks like the bolts go through the pinion mounting holes, then through a bracket holding this block and then secure into the IRD casing. The block looks to wrap around the top of the pinion. I'm sure mine didn't have this block and in pictures of IRDs I don't recall seeing this block before. It looks like some kind of damper.
Does anyone know what it is? Is it usually found there! Here's a pic...
