As above what is the obsession with galvanising everything now, just seen a post telling somebody to get a bulkhead galvanised for an old defender. Whats the point unless the rest of it is it will fall to bits eventually like they all do.
If something rusts repair it, if it rusts and falls off replace it........nothing lasts forever and I don't want any of my Landrovers to outlive me- not going to be a problem with the disco 1:D

Whats the story with painting over galv ?

I`m starting a Series 3 soon, chassis is actually fine, but whatever I can get Galvanised, I will. It`s pretty cheap to get done.

Special primers then normal paint ?

Galv chassis no repairs needed for the 20years since build.

Bulkhead in the garden not on yet.

Only reason I have things galv is to protect the crap metal that LR used

Just having my 300TDI rebuilt with Richards chassis & galv'd bulkhead. Now I don't have to worry about rust, just it's pinchability. My first one was pinched in Brecon 7 years ago so I'm a bit neurotic about this one going the same way . So far I have a steering guard and a pedal guard (Rimmers). Any suggestions for protecting her?

Galv chassis, galv bulhead, gav inner sills, galv radiator surround, galv floor supports, galv spring turrets. Looking forward to the next 20yrs like Hi cap phil n Flossie :)

Absolutely, I hope to pass this on to one of my children
We went for galved sills, turrets & floor supports as well but didn't think of the radiator surround. Hmmm...

To be fair, it's a very easy thing to change. It's thick metal too, so will last a long time. I'd cleaned a lot of stuff ready for galving and had that rubbed down to so took it along. @aaronmorris is the king of galvanising :D

Sorry missed the tubular turrets.
No sills to worry about.
I like to drive a motor not keep fixing it.

As for security. Before galving put some ID marks in it. That look normal to normal people.
Yep every item on my motor has marks. If they Remove these after galv, It damages the galv & hopefully some one will notice.

Thanks for the suggestion, Phill. Unfortunately it's a bit too late for that, she's half built already. Hope to collect next week.

They may have put marks on both items to show it's a Richards not a competitors.
My bulkhead has a serial number welded to it plus other security.
Happy building

Forgot all the galv cappings on my tub
Here's some of Aaron's galv stuff
